Monday’s nationwide transport strike called off
The nationwide transport strike originally scheduled for Monday has been called off. The four unions in dispute with Transnet over the restructuring exercise have postponed the national mass action until the 13th of this month. It was decided to postpone the strike as it would have been hindered by the start of the high-profile rape trial of former deputy president Jacob Zuma in Johannesburg on Monday. All four unions have reaffirmed their commitment to the national action, but say security requirements for the Zuma trial will not allow such a large gathering in Johannesburg on the same day.
