The Order of the Knight of the Elephant was presented to former President Nelson Mandela by the Queen of Denmark in 1996. Apart from being the oldest, The Order of the Elephant is also the most prestigious Order. Even though it (the Order) was awarded 12 years ago, the installing of the shield in the Knights Hall had never taken place.
Foreign affairs minister Dlamini Zuma is in Denmark where she was invited to attend the Shield Placing Ceremony on behalf of Madiba. During her visit, the Minister will meet with South African Ambassadors. Spokesperson Ayanda Ntsaluba says that South Africa has always had good relations with Denmark.
“Denmark, like all of the Nordic countries, has been closely linked to the developments in South Africa. It has been a major support in some of our developmental projects and has been a long-standing supporter during the difficult periods here in South Africa,” said Ayanda Ntsaluba.
He added that the reason for the discussion was just to ensure the relations between the countries remain on course.
