Vodafone takes over Vodacom

Vodafone, the world's biggest mobile phone group by revenue, will take control of South Africa's Vodacom Group. Vodafone announced yesterday that it had agreed to buy a further 15-percent stake in Vodacom for 22-and-a-half-billion-rands.

The British firm will buy the stake from Telkom to add to its existing 50-percent stake.

It is reported that Telkom and Vodafone have been in talks since June over the group which has strong market positions in South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Mozambique and Tanzania
