After the Cape High court ruling that the premises of the Home Affairs refugee centre in Nyanga was unlawful the department had to relocate its premises to a new centre.
The centre was requested to move by the end of September, as its operations at the premises constituted irritation for the surrounding businesses.
However the department was given an extension as new premises were not available.
In a statement the department’s spokesperson says the Nyanga Refugee Reception Office was closed on Friday.
She says the office have been relocated to new premises situated at 412 Voortrekker Road, Maitland.
“As from Monday, 12 October 2009 the Department will be operating its normal business from the new site in Maitland,” said Mosana.
She says the department apologises for the inconvenience that members of the public may have experienced as the result of relocation.
