An influential ANC leader of Mpumalanga is accused of hiring a killer to poison some of his colleagues who were blocking his way to 2010 soccer World Cup tenders.
A 25 year old contract killer claims the man offered him R100 000 and a government job for killing his rivals.
Media reports say the ANC boss was fingered by more than a dozen other sources interviewed during a three-week investigation into the killings of at least a dozen senior politicians in Mpumalanga starting in 1998.
Reports further say six officials had been murdered or died in suspicious circumstances in Mpumalanga last year alone and another has been killed this year.
Local party leaders told the media they were living in fear.
