Police are seeking public assistance after a new born baby was found abandoned near the Vlei railway station in Sweet Homes Farm at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi says the baby boy was discovered by a passer-by in an open field.

Sitshitshi says they suspect he was born on Friday as his cord was still attached and fresh.

“The boy was taken to the children’s hospital but was discharged later and is at a place of safety,” Sitshitshi said.

Police are investigating a case of child abandonment.

Anyone with information on the case can contact SAPS Nyanga Detectives on 021 380 3320 or Nyanga JOC at 021 380 3376 or 08600 10111.
