During the Western Cape Flying Squad patrol in Bristol Road, Browns Farm, three men were arrested for possession of stolen vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm and pointing of a firearm.
Police say they spotted a suspicious Silver Grey Honda Ballade with three occupants.
They tested the vehicle and came out to be hijacked in Langa, in December.
Police chased the vehicle and the driver lost control and drove into a shack.
Police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi says the driver jumped out of the vehicle with a firearm on his hand and ran away.
“He tried to shoot at the police, but the police officer shot him on the chin and he was arrested and taken to hospital,” said Sitshitshi.
Two other suspects were arrested on the scene.
Sitshitshi says the trio facing charges of stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing of a firearm will appear in the Athlone magistrate’s court tomorrow.
