A 46 year old male has been arrested on a charge of perjury after reporting a false high jacking case at Delft Police.

Police spokesperson Captain Joe Wilson says the man alleged that on Saturday while driving his vehicle, he was confronted by three armed males on the corner of Leiden Drive and Elands Road. The suspects pulled him out of his vehicle and sped off in an unknown direction.

“In the meantime police attended an accident scene on the corners of Symphony Way and Hindle Road, where two vehicles collided.

“In this accident the driver and its occupants of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot, after been accused of being under the influence of alcohol,” said Wilson.

Wilson says a 46 year old male wanted to open a high jacking case, but after thorough investigation it was established that the suspect has fabricate his complaint. The vehicle which was apparently high jacked was the same vehicle found abandoned at the accident scene.

“The 46 year old suspect later admitted to the allegations and was charged with perjury, and reckless and negligent driving,” said Wilson.

He will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court tomorrow

Police warns residents to refrain from laying any false complaints, because it will be investigated thoroughly.
