Seventeen arrested for hijacking buildings in Johannesburg

17 people have been arrested in Johannesburg for allegedly hijacking buildings.

Police began the raid of the buildings on Thursday night and continued until the early hours of today.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said "Warrants of arrests were issued for the suspects after they had forcefully occupied the buildings and prevented owners' access to their properties. The suspects will be charged with fraud, trespassing and contempt of court”.

The suspects will be appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
