Milpark hospital to settle with Zambian man

Netcare Milpark Hospital will settle damages incurred by a Zambian man who received a cardiac bypass operation, but had his left leg amputated.

Shabir Ahmed Limbada claimed 4.8 million rands in damages from the surgeon and the hospital in the Pretoria High Court after his ordeal in May, 2009.

The 59-year-old man will be fully compensated it he can prove he had suffered as a result of the amputation. The amount of damages will be determined later.

The surgeon and the hospital have agreed to settle without prejudice and without admitting liability.
