Arms deal in the spotlight again

A new book alleges that former president F W de Klerk had been directly involved in the country’s notorious arms deal.

De Klerk’s spokesperson Dave Steward has denied the claims and says the insinuations are baseless.

Paul Holden is the co-author of “The Devil in the Detail: How the Arms Deal Changed Everything”.

A Sunday paper quotes from the book, and says it also probes the alleged involvement of former president Thabo Mbeki and former defence procurement chief Chippy Shaik.
