A suspect was fatally wounded in George after a shoot out with police on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson captain Bernadine Steyn says SAPS members on patrol noticed a green Uno at a house in Lawaaikamp, and the suspicious vehicle was later seen again in Stanford Mangaliso Drive and SAPS members tried to stop the Uno.
“The Uno accelerated and members pursued during which the suspects tried several times to push the SAPS vehicle of the road.
“While the chase continued members allegedly saw in the rear window of the Uno an object that looked like a firearm and members opened fire,” said Steyn.
She added that after the Uno stopped four suspects were arrested.
“The fifth suspect, whose identity is not known as yet , who was seated on the rear-seat, was fatally wounded in his head.
“A total of fourteen parcels dagga with an estimated street value of about R 1 000-00 were thrown from the Uno,” said Steyn.
The four suspects aged between 23 and 30 years from Berrington and Karatara are expected to appear in the George Magistrates’ court tomorrow on charges of attempted murder, reckless and or negligent driving and possession of dagga.
