The ANC Youth League leadership is meeting today to discuss the way forward following the steps taken against it by the ruling party.

The leadership remains intact until after the appeal process.

If the appeals are rejected, Julius Malema will be stripped of his position and will be suspended for five years.

Floyd Shivambu will also lose his position as spokesperson and will have to serve a three-year suspension.

Meanwhile, 70% of a group of young South Africans surveyed agrees that it was necessary to suspend Julius Malema for five years.

TNS Surveys says it conducted a short mobile survey after Malema's suspension.

Of the just more than 600 people who responded, 30% felt the steps taken against the ANC Youth League leader were too harsh.

The figure of 70% who approved dropped to 66% for those younger than 24.
