The Department of Trade and Industry warns that South African exporters could lose billions of Rands.

This is if wealthy nations impose tough tariffs on energy intensive imports from the developing world.

The department’s Brendan Vickers says gold, platinum, iron and steel exports could be the most affected.

Vickers also added that this could also mean that wine exports in the Western Cape, along with the packaging industry, could suffer job losses and 400-million-Rands in revenues by May next year.
