A trade union report has shown that there has been a significant slowdown in retrenchments in the clothing and textile industry.

The SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union says the industry experienced a drop of more than 50-percent in retrenchments in the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period last year.

Sactwu research director Ettiene Vlok says the report was tabled at the union's national executive committee meeting at the weekend.

Vlok added that in the last two years they have seen more support from government to assist the industry.
