Twenty seven drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while a total of 1038 were screened for being under suspicion of the offence.

Media Liaison Officer Ministry of Community Safety Jo Lennox says a total of 2329 vehicles were stopped at roadblocks.

“Three men were arrested in three separate cases over the weekend for the illegal possession of dagga.

“As we are approaching another festive season we are very aware that with increased traffic on our roads comes the increased risk of fatalities and injuries,” said Lennox.

She says last week they launched an integrated Safely Home Road Safety Plan for the festive season with all programmes and initiatives in place to bolster resources to increase safety and combat reckless behaviour on the roads.
