The City of Cape Town says Fish Hoek Beach has been cleared after a shark sighting today.

The city is considering a proposal to begin the first steps of shark barring nets.

The South Peninsula Sub Council has to approve the proposal first.

The city’s Greg Oelofse said that the beach was cleared after a white shark was spotted this morning.

Oelofse added that as soon as the shark spotters are confident that the mammal is gone the beach will be reopened.
