Disaster management teams are on standby in the Western and Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State and Gauteng as a massive cold front sweeps across the country bringing high winds, snow and heavy seas.

The Weather Office predicted the bitterly cold and wet conditions yesterday.

The heavy winter conditions are expected to last throughout this week with heavy snow on most of the high lying regions.

The cold snap has also brought miserable conditions for shack dwellers in all the provinces and the disaster teams are keeping a close watch on low lying areas where flooding is expected.
