Nicro remembers women prisoners

Today is the National Women’s Day in South Africa and should be a day to recognise the importance of local women and their contribution to the democracy of the country.

The issue of babies and young children jailed along with their mothers has come into the spotlight recently.

Jacques Sibomana of the National Institute for Crime prevention and the Reintegration of Offenderssaid that the Criminal Justice System needs to find an alternative before sentencing pregnant women.

He added that prison is not the right place for children to grow up in.
