No army deployed to Cape ganglands

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaji has confirmed that President Jacob Zuma has not ordered the army into Cape Town’s gang affected areas. 

This follows recent reports that the president had given the order for the army to be deployed. 

Maharaji said President Jacob Zuma is still holding consultations with ministers. 

Maharaji said the President already met with the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner.

He adds that this is an on-going task that should be done by the police.
