Oil spill said to be caused by sabotage

Amnesty International and the Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development are disputing oil company Shell's claims that a seven-day-long oil spill in the Niger Delta in June had been caused by sabotage.

The activists say the oil company is trying to avoid taking responsibility for the disaster.

They add that Shell constantly hides behind excuses and dodges responsibility for its failure to properly maintain their infrastructure.

The latest spill happened in Nigeria’s Bodo Creek area.
