The Medical Parole Board insists that convicted former police chief Jackie Selebi was not paroled because of his political connections.
Vice chairperson of the Board Angelique Coetzee told Members of Parliament on Tuesday that Selebi had kidney failure, a stroke, heart and eye disease, a pulmonary embolism and motor function impairment.
According to Coetzee, Selebi had been suffering from kidney disease even before he went on trial.
She added that she decided not to disclose it.
