Skills development in SA can’t compete

Skills development is essential for South Africa to maintain its ability to be competitive globally and grow its economy.

This is the view of the world's biggest mining firm BHP Billiton which recently held its annual skills development summit in Pretoria.

There are low numbers of matric learners studying maths and science and low matric exemptions.

Chairperson Xolani Mkhwanazi says unless they are focused on developing skills they won’t be able to change the high unemployment rate.
