Western Cape Department of Transport plans to install cameras at a level crossing

The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works will be installing CCTV cameras at Buttskop Road level crossing. 

This follows the tragic accident in 2010 where ten school children died after the driver ignored the stop sign at the level crossing. 

CCTV cameras installed at White Road level crossing in Retreat have seen hundreds of motorists being caught ignoring security measures. 

Department Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said that the process to install these cameras is still ongoing.
