Mine workers expected to return to work

Trade union Solidarity says finality will at last be obtained today about whether a dispute about rock-drill operators’ pay was the real reason behind the violent strike and related violence at Lonmin’s Marikana mine outside Rustenburg.

Solidarity General Secretary Gideon du Plessis said there were many reasons said which are believed to have led to the illegal strike at the mine.

He said that political and the Union rival reasons were mentioned.

He added that if the workers return to work today then it would be known that it was a wage dispute but if they continue with intimidation and illegal gatherings then there is lot more to it.
