President Jacob Zuma today addressed delegates at the South African Local Government Association held in Midrand in Gauteng.

Zuma said South Africa has come a long way in addressing service delivery in the past 18 years.

He says despite three centuries of underdevelopment and racist spatial planning, government has made substantial progress in extending services, especially to the poor who were marginalised in the past.

Spokesperson in the Presidency Mac Maharaj said the backlogs are glaring because there still are underdeveloped townships and areas that do not have improved municipalities.
