Backyarders give the City of Cape Town an ultimatum

On November 24th, poor communities attended The Western Cape Anti Eviction Campaign General Council event, in which it was decided that the poor communities will stay away from having joy, happiness and enjoying the summer holidays because they say they have nothing to celebrate because they live like slaves in the province.
The Organisation`s Mthobeli Qona said they
are giving and providing timeframe for the province and the City of Cape Town
to respond within 30 days to their demands.
Abahlali BaseMjondolo has written a letter
to Mayor Patricia De Lille and Premier Helen Zille regarding difficulties that
poor people in the province face.

Qona said amongst their demands is that the
victims of fires and floods be the responsibility of government.
Qona adds that if the provincial government
does not respond they will embark on a protest.
