The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia
De Lille, today attended a memorial service in honour of those who died as a
result of the fire that broke out the BM Section, Khayelitsha on New Years Day.
3 000 people were affected and 800 shacks
were destroyed due to the blaze.
pokesperson Priya Reddy said the Mayors
thoughts and prayers go out to families of the victims; she wants all of the friends
and family to know that those who have suffered losses because of the fire.
Reddy said that the Mayor wants the people
to know that the City is using all the resources that they have to bring as
much relief as they can to those that have been affected and to know that the
families are not alone in this.
