A broadcast journalist was robbed by two men, one of which was wielding a knife as she was cycling over the weekend.

Paula Chowles’ ordeal occurred on a cycling lane between the City and Blouwberg with a friend.

The thugs managed to get away with her backpack containing belongings including her wallet, cell phone and keys.

Her friend managed to get away.

Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Roads and Rainwater Brett Herron said that three of four similar incidents have regrettably been reported in the past year.

“It seems that our cycling lanes are not immune from criminal opportunism, and we have to ask our citizens to be vigilant when using our cycle lane as they would be anywhere else in the city” Herron said

Herron also said that the transport development has asked the law enforcement to increase their presence around those lanes and are also looking to install CCTV cameras to monitor what is happening on the lanes to increase the safety of the lanes to users.
