DA calls for commission of inquiry for Groenpunt prison riot

After the riots and violence that erupted at Groenpunt Maximum Prison in the Free State, many organisations have called for a commission of inquiry to investigate the incident.

The Democratic Alliance Shadow Minister of Correctional Services James Selfe said that an independent investigation into the matter.

“We will be calling on the Department to provide a full report to the Potfolio Committee of Correctional Services as soon as Parliament reconvenes” Selfe said.

Selfe said that maybe there are lessons to be learnt so that this incident will not become a recurring feature in the Department.
