Opposition parties not happy about Eskom’s price hike
Lusanda Bill
16 January 2013
Eskom held its first public hearings
in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The power utility wants to increase
its tariffs’ by 16 percent a year over the next five years.
DA Shadow Deputy Minister of Energy
David Ross said the hike is inappropriate and the problem lies with the Eskom
pricing formula.
Meanwhile the
United Democratic Movement Bantu Holomisa has called on all South Africans to
resist Eskom’s application to raise electricity prices by 16 percent per year
over the next five years.
Holomisa added that
the increase in electricity prices a certain percentage benefits the ruling
party directly.
