There have been reports that the South African Airways again narrowly avoided ongoing strike action by reaching an interim agreement with new transport union, the National Transport Movement.

The Democratic Alliance said while it is a relief that the national carrier reported no interruptions to flight operations on Friday following the suspension of strike action by NTM, a number of questions were raised that need to be clarified.

DA Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises Natasha Michael said they will request a full report from the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Public Enterprises.

Michael adds that there is a need to avoid all possible strike action and tensions between the carrier and the unions.
