Violence at Groenpunt Correctional Centre condemned

This follows when a unit was set on fire by
inmates Monday in the maximum security section of the Groenpunt Correctional
Centre in Deneysville in the Free State
Correctional Services Acting National
Commissioner Ms Nontsikilelo Jolingana says the situation at Groenpunt is now
under control and police are now investigating the matter.
Nontsikilelo Jolingana explains that as a
department they want to say that they cannot allow anarchy in any form or shape
that it comes in.
Jolingana adds the correctional centres belong
to government and therefore government will take total and
full control of such centres.
Jolingana said she wants to assure the South African Public that
the situation at the Groenpunt Correctional Centre is now back to normal, they
have addressed the offenders in both units, have taken some of their complaints
and as a department they will lodge an investigation into the whole incident.
