Yesterday Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant and MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato met with members of police at the Spes Bona High School to discuss on going security measures at the school.

This is after a student was shot dead on school premises on Wednesday.

Some of the measures to be introduced include increased patrolling during school hours, increased police visibility before and after school hours.

The police will make random visits to the school and also conduct regular searches for weapons.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey explains that Minister Grant has urged learners to return to the school as SAPS have increased their patrols to ensure their safety; they are also investigating the incident and have made some significant progress in this regard.

Casey added that they are confident regarding the arrests that have been made, the Minister and SAPS also discussed other interventions at schools across the City.
