The Democratic Alliance visited the Kouga Local Municipality where they found
poor sanitation in the area.
According to reports there are about
3 292 bucket toilets in the Kouga Local Municipality alone and a
further 1 367 households without any toilets.
The housing backlog is an estimated
9 000 in Kouga.
Research and Communications Officer Colin Wardie said that upon inspection they
saw the sites there and it was truly horrific and they have approached the human
rights commission and have requested that they launch an investigation into the
maladministration that has taken place there.
“We will also be requesting that the MEC
for human settlements in the province and the executive mayor of the Kouga Municipality be summoned before
parliament to account for the mismanagement and the backlogs that have been
going on for years within the province,” added Wardie.
