Civil Society organisations are this week
expected to make oral submission to the Portfolio Committee on Trade and
Industry regarding the proposed amendments to the Lotteries Act.
The Funding Practice Alliance said the
proposed changes are likely to have a significant impact on thousands of
non-profit organisation and their projects as they alter the entire structure
of the National Lotteries Board, as well as the manner in which funds from the
National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund are distributed.
Funding Practice Alliance Coordinator
Janine Ogle said it is no clear which organ of state would be able to run a
lottery at the drop of a hat.
Ogle further said there have been some
controversial funds that have come out and there are other options which it
does not seem like the DTI and the lottery board are considering.
