The Western Cape
Department of Education said ten schools in the province have reported
incidents of burglary and vandalism during the September school holidays.

Casey added that
MEC Grant is not pleased of any incident of burglary and vandalism in our
schools. The theft of schools
possessions and damaged property is costly for the WCED.
“Last year for
example the WCED paid out over R7 million in repairs to schools affected by
burglary and vandalism, money that could have been used to improve the quality
of education in our schools or to assist a learner.
