An accident in Worcester leaves nine people dead

An accident this morning outside Worcester on the N1 left nine people dead including seven males and two females and eight people injured. 

Western Cape Emergency Medical Services Spokesperson Robert Daniels said a taxi collided with a stationery vehicle which caused the tragic accident. 

Daniels said all the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for further care and the road has been closed while it is still being cleared.

Meanwhile in another incident five homeless people were swept away along the Breede River in Robertson. 

It is believed they were sleeping under one of the bridges along the river when the flooded river swept them up. 

Daniels said three people were brought to safety but two more people are still missing the search for the two missing continues.
