The Democratic Alliance today said they will write to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate requesting an investigation into the conduct of police officers following a collision involving President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma in Johannesburg a week ago.

DA MP Dianne Kohler Barnard said it has emerged that Duduzane Zuma was not given the mandatory breathalyser test following a fatal car collision that killed one and critically injured two a week ago. It has also been reported that neither has Duduzane been charged with culpable homicide, even though it is standard procedure for any driver involved in a fatal collision to be charged.

Barnard said the IPID must therefore investigate why standard procedures were flouted, and who gave the order for this to happen. The IPID should pull the telephone records of all police officers involved if it has to.

She further said Duduzane Zuma, must be treated like any other South African citizen. The law cannot be bent or ignored just because President Jacob Zuma is his father.
