Harmony Gold’s Doornkop mine closed

Minister of Mineral Resources Susan Shabangu has confirmed that operations at Harmony Gold’s Doornkop mine will be closed until the area has been declared safe for employees.

This is after nine miners were trapped underground after a fire erupted in the mine which left eight of them died one is still missing.

GCIS Media liaison Ayanda Shezi said operations have adversely been affected by the incident and this will be investigated to ensure that it does not happened again.

She further sent messages of condolences to the family and to the management and the co-workers.
