The Western Cape Police arrested 164
suspects in the past week for various crimes including drug and firearm
possession, during a Crime Prevention Operation in Mitchell’s Plain, Lentegeur and
Strandfontein. Captain FC van Wyk said
27 houses were searched for drugs whereby 117 suspects were arrested.
Police also recovered six illegal
firearms and six stolen vehicles. Van
Wyk said 15 perpetrators were arrested for crimes against Women and Children.
Van Wyk added that on Friday 9 May Mitchells Plain police members patrolled Eastridge where community members informed them of an armed male robbing people in the nearby vicinity. While the police were collecting the information, the public pointed out three of the now arrested suspects.
“Two of the suspects fled while one
suspect fired shots at the police members, when the suspect attempted to flee
the police exchanged fire and
apprehended the 20 year old suspect for the possession of an illegal firearm
and ammunition” said Van Wyk
