A mother and her son were arrested for possession of firearms

A woman and her son were arrested for being in possession of firearms, 332 rounds of ammunition, two police jacket, a pair of handcuffs and 38 shotgun rounds. 

Police said one of the firearm that was found is believed to have been used in an attempted murder case. 

KwaZulu Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said they will be investigating if the other firearms were used by the suspects to commit any other crimes. 

Colonel Jay Naicker said when they searched the house they found an R-five rifle with serial number written off. There was also a large quantity of the ammunition in the house.

Naicker added that the mother and the son were arrested on the scene and the father handed himself to the police.
