The Democratic Alliance said protecting the children of South Africa is a priority.

In a statement the DA said Child Protection Week is unfortunately marred by recent and increasing media reports of growing incidents of extreme violence against children in the country and abroad.

DA Federal Leader Denise Robinson said we are trying to highlight to government that they need to take more serious steps to heal the problems that we have in our society.

“We don’t have enough social workers, we don’t have enough councillors, there are not sufficient safe houses, we want the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit to be increased.  There are some but they are few and far between” Robinson added.

She also called for more Sexual Offences Courts to be established in the country.
