The Democratic Alliance has called for an investigation into the new cabinet’s bloated budget.

DA Spokesperson on Standing Committee on Public Accounts Alf Lees said instead of government wasting public money on perk and privileges a much needed belt tightening process must happen.

Lees has said we are very concerned that if we increase the Ministry that the austerity measures which Gordhan announce such as credit card control, motor vehicle limitation and office furniture are going to be ignored.

"We going to check very carefully the expenditure made on these items by the new minsters and their ministerial offices Lees added.
