Domestic workers wage review welcomed

The South African Domestic Services and Allied Workers Union has welcomed the results of the domestic workers wage review process but it still has some concerns.

Union President Hester Stevens said the Minister of Labour needs to take into account that many wage reviews were conducted over the last ten years and not once were the workers input fairly considered.

Stevens the Labour Department must hear our demands that one minimum wage must be for all.

“It is unfair that the workers (farmworkers/domestic workers) in the city like Cape Town must earn more than workers who are working in rural areas, the minimum wage standard must be the same across the board” Stevens added.
