Two suspects aged 17 and 20-years-old were on Wednesday arrested in connection with the rape of two children aged 10 and 16-years-old in the Central Karoo.

The children were raped in bushes next to Blyth Street.  It is believed a group of children were in the veld looking for wire to build a car when the suspects approached them and threatened them with a dog.

Captain Malcolm Pojie said three of the children managed to escape and the other two were taken by the suspects.

Pojie said when they arrived on the scene the suspects had already fled the scene.

“Based on the information a manhunt started and the suspects were found in Prins Valley and Rustdene respectively.  They were arrested and the 10-year-old sustained severe genital injuries and taken to hospital” Pojie added.

The suspects are appearing in the Beaufort-West Magistrate Court today on charges of rape.
