Illegal miners found dead in Benoni

Four people believed to be illegal miners were found dead in Benoni early this morning.

ER24 paramedics attended to the scene where four people were found dead and three other people were in a critical condition.

It is alleged that two groups of illegal miners got into a fight over mining when shots were fired. 

Meanwhile police have already arrested five people in connection with the shooting. 

ER24 Spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said on arrival ER24 paramedics and other services found people believed to be illegal miners with gunshot wounds. Four people were assessed and declared dead. Three people who were in a critical condition were treated and transported to a local hospital.

Bodasing continued to say while still on scene providing medical support paramedics heard gunshots, a few moments later they were informed of another shooting that have ensued nearby.

Bodasing said members of the police have escorted them to the site. Another person was assessed and declared dead on the scene.
