City Law Enforcement officers
managed to chase down two suspects in the Bellville CBD and it later emerged
they were wanted in connection with a recent ATM bombing in Cape Town.
Two City of Cape Town Law
Enforcement officers were conducting foot patrols in the Bellville CBD area
when they heard residents screaming nearby.
MEC of Safety and Security Alderman
JP Smith said they were charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and
ammunition.
Smith said the officers booked
them in at the local police station, they were informed by a detective that the
suspects had been involved in a recent ATM bombing in central Cape Town but had
managed to evade police officers.
Smith said these arrests were the result of
officers being vigilant while on patrol and their swift action has resulted in
two armed and dangerous men being removed from our streets.
“We really commended the
officers for the confiscations and arrests” Smith added.
