Police searching for a mother who abandoned her 17 month baby

Police are searching for a mother of a 17-month-old baby boy who was found abandoned at Coller road in Steenberg.

The mother of the child allegedly left the baby boy on the floor of a house she went in asking for water.

When the owner of the house went to fetch her water she was gone and the baby left at the doorstep wrapped with a towel and a clinic card next to him.

Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said when the baby was found he was wearing a white top and he was covered in a towel.

“Anyone with information that can assist us in tracing the mother is requested to contact detective sergeant Heinrich Witbooi on 021 702 9000 or contact crime stop on 08600 10111” Rwexana added.
