SABRIC says bank robberies decreased

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre has revealed that bank robberies has decreased in 2015.

Last year the banking industry recorded 30% increase in associated robberies.

SABRIC’s said in a statement that the biggest drop recorded this year is in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape Province where associated bank robberies showed a 40% and 46% respectively.

SABRIC’s Kevin Twainame said “we are seeing a 23% decrease nationally and this is significant as it is different to the previous years.”


Twainame added that the particular crime fight associated to bank robberies is of concern to the banking industry and they are intended to target the generally public out there of creating awareness and safety in terms of carrying cash safely.
